Asafum@feddit.nl 1 year agoYeah but that’s not the argument anymore. It used to be the argument, but some Big Brain™ propagandist realized you could just make the argument about “murdering babies” and then you automatically win because there is no arguing the other side.
When the argument is “murdering babies is bad” vs “murdering babies is ok” there’s no acceptable response other than “murdering babies is bad.” So they get the easy argument and we have to explain nuance about abortions.
Once nuance is needed to defend your stance you’ve lost the general public, not because you are wrong, but because complex arguments are just more difficult to win with when the opposite stance is so “obviously” correct, “murder bad.”

But if murder is bad, why are they so in favor of murdering women who will die in childbirth? U.S. citizens, no less?

They are also often in favor of the death penalty for certain crimes. These people are not internally consistent at all. And honestly, with the amount of issues in the Bible, you have to be very comfortable with a lack of consistency to be that religious anyway. Not that most of them are actually really reading the Bible. Seems like most just ingest whatever their preacher decides to tell them.
