Hamas is still attacking Israel.
Mkay.
Under international law they have the right to self defense.
Okey dokey. Got it. Though, my minor quibble is how it’s self-defense to go into another’s territory and fuck it up. I guess we’re using the U.S. definition of self-defense which is just aggression. Anyway, continuing the argument…
Hiding in civilians doesn’t mean Israel loses the right to self defense.
Wait a second…you skipped a lot of steps.
- Implied premise: Hamas is hiding among civilians
Okay, yeah, I’ve heard that before. Sure.
- Implied premise: Because Hamas hides among civilians, combatants and civilians are indistinguishable.
This premise or something like that must be perceived to be true to justify killing civilians. And it’s the critical premise in your argument.
Implied Premise: Israeli self-defense targets civilians and Hamas combatants alike.
But Israel is bombing sites of aid! People are just trying to survive and Israel is like, “Welp, looks like the children of Hamas need to die.” And then massacres them. These people aren’t attacking Israel as they clamor for a piece of lettuce. What is the genocidal country of Israel defending against as it destroys food and water and the people trying to get them?

International law allows you to do this. How else would you stop the rocket attacks unless you go to destroy the rockets ?
It’s backed by the rules of warfare.
Now the starving part is where I draw the line. Israel has an obligation to keep support services going to the best of their ability.
I feel this has gone on to long. 60 days and I would have been cool. We are well past that point. They need to wrap things up and call it a day.

An obvious question is does international law concerning war have anything to say about not killing civilians? Can you go get the rockets and just…murder everyone in your path?

That isn’t what Israel is doing. Israel goes to extensive paths to minimize.casualties. They go above and beyond to limit the amount of people killed.
Hamas goes out of their way to maximize civilian deaths.
The two are not the same.
