- It’s a bad description since there’s multiple unions of states in america

Tell that to Austria - Österreich. That means “Eastern realm”, since there are no countries more to the East of anything than them. Or hell, Iceland. Niger is named after the river Niger, which might come from ger-n-ger meaning “river of rivers”, so that’s another wonderfully unambiguous name.
I’m sure there are other great examples.

Meanwhile Czech name for Germany is “Němci”, which means “Those who can’t speak”, as compared to Slavs which is “Those who can speak”.
