I said it because it was funny reading exactly into what they said in the context of this conversation. You’re translating their intent correctly, but that’s not very funny to me. There’s a bit of an art to the “deliberately misinterpret what someone is saying” joke. I’m not sure exactly what it is tbh, but they’ve been pretty hit or miss. Maybe this one flopped because it’s poking fun at righteous rage that isn’t often in the mood for being made fun of, so it assumes any pushback is serious, but that’s just a guess.
