Comment on Democrats eye inquiries into Trump actions on energy, public land.
OwOarchist@pawb.social 2 days agoI think that might actually be a possibility.
Republicans in Congress have just seen what being loyal to Trump will get them. And it will only take a few of them breaking ranks…

It takes a 2/3 supermajority in the Senate. That means an awful big chunk of the Republicans would have to be willing.

They have 54 dems for sure, maybe 56 if remaining undecided seats go dem – since those two remaining seats are currently leaning dem, let’s assume they’ll have 56.
A 2/3 supermajority requires 67. They’ll need 11 of the 44 Republicans to go along with it. Yes, that’s kind of a big ask, but it’s only 1/4 of them. And in the Senate in particular, some of them will be looking at trying to get reelected in 2028. A presidential election year, which already doesn’t usually bode well for Republicans. After looking at what happened in the midterms, I think it’s plausible that you could find 11 Republicans who are willing to throw Trump under the impeachment bus in order to distance themselves from him and improve their reelection chances.

Last time around, when Trump had just sent a mob to kill the Senate, only seven Republicans to vote for impeachment.
He has spent the time since purging the Republican party of anybody who would cross him

When they voted to release the Epstein files, it was unanimous except for one holdout.
I don’t think it’s likely, but I do think it’s within the realm of possibility, especially now that they’ve seen what rewards they’ll get for loyalty.
