You laugh but I’m pretty sure only ddr2 and below was unaffected because its quite literally a dead standard you’d only find hobbiests using.
ddr3 is still the primary option in a lot of 3rd world countries and the prices for those have also gone to crap.

I built mine in 2016 and have DDR4.
I think they were thinking of DDR5.
