drmoose@lemmy.world 1 week agoI guess it just varies highly by location. The baltic and the Nordic countries Airbnb is so much better but France and Germany actually has proper reasonable family hotels. My guess from my own anecdotal experience would be that denser countries and locations have better scaling for family hotels while smaller ones scale better with family apartments / condos. The competition here might actually be low key good for everyone.

I don’t know about the Nordics but for me Airbnb was way overpriced in Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, etc. in the USA it was in Florida and California. In every country there were touristy spots, cities, and off the beaten track locations. Timeframe: about the last 10 years at least.
I only open Airbnb to show the crazy to utterly deranged prices and wonder who is paying more for less convenience and no service.
