adespoton@lemmy.ca 4 days agoThe answer is: English has a Germanic grammar, not a Latin grammar.
This can be confusing since we have so much Latin syntax layered on top of that.

Ironically enough, “Like you potatoes?” Is essentially how the question would be asked in modern German (“Mögen Sie Kartoffeln?”).
