MonkRome@lemmy.world 1 week agoOn my bike to work I pass a few homeless encampments and they aren’t even the biggest ones in my city. Homeless people lack basic nutrition, adequate medical care, safety, housing, etc. They are by definition not meeting basic needs.

Might be a US problem, here no one is completely homeless except by choice. The support isn’t great but it will keep you alive if you want to.

I doubt all 4500 homeless people that still sleep outside in the UK all refused shelter, but the UK gives temporary housing far better than the USA.
