Comment on My trench knife, Artyom's from the game Metro 2033
Peter1986C@nord.pub 20 hours agoHm. I found the first game (original release+ Rangermode DLC, not the “redux” (?) version) the best, Exodus (third game) pretty good (esp. if you wait for a discount), and the middle game (Last Light) somewhat mediocre. So I would be more inclined to apply the skipping to the second game instead of the last one (if skipping exactly one of three; the original first in Rangermode still remains the very best of the franchise).

I love that series and I will say I wasn’t a huge fan of exodus at first, but I grew to love it. My main issue was that I like the metro part of the metro games, going up to the surface was always my least favorite part of the games, so when exodus came out, a game entirely about being above the surface, I wasn’t a fan.
But after a few years, I played it for real after playing the other games again, and there is so much good stuff in that game. Lots of new mechanics tthat were mostly pretty fun, and I really got around to enjoying the story. The way the story centers around a train and all the different characters on the train, getting new members and/or losing them as you progress across the countryside. All the different locations and the types of creatures and people you meet there.
In a story like this, where humanity is trapped in tunnels while the surface is uninhabitable, you almost have to have part of that story be about leaving the tunnels behind and finding life on the surface. I still wish the series had 2 or 3 more games in the tunnels before that exodus happens, but I didn’t get to make the games, so it’s not up to me. I’m glad I got to play it though, and I’m looking forward to playing it again sometime soon. I am incredibly interested in the new game too, looks like a lot of metro tunnels again, plus so much weird stuff going on in the trailers.

The games do loosely follow a series of Russian novels, so that explains why Exodus is mostly not taking part in the Moscow metro network (the original story progresses that way afaik, although I haven’t read the books).

The plot of Metro Exodus is based on the book “Metro 2033: Beyond the Horizon” (this is a book from the expanded universe). There, the main character, a stalker nicknamed “Taran,” along with his crew, set off from Saint Petersburg to Vladivostok on an MZKT-79221 missile carrier (which had its missile replaced with a fuel tank). The characters also crossed the Volga, visited Yamantau, traveled along the shores of the Caspian Sea and Lake Baikal, and finished their journey in Vladivostok
