Comment on When the car diagnostic computer knows the list of problems is so long
MrEff@lemmy.world 1 week agoYeah, like I said, I will never buy a chevy car again. The transmission carrier bearing is worn out. It is also where the speed sensor is housed. So the speedo drops out any time you are not accelerating. This causes a speed/air/fuel mismatch and kills the car any time you slow down unless you keep it in gear (manual). So if I beak too much on the high way or going up to a red light, the car dies and I quickly have to get it in gear and pop the clutch to jump start it, or awkwardly start turning the key to start it normally while moving.
The bearing is about 35$. Taking out, disassembling, rebuilding, and reassembling, reinstalling the transmission is over 3500$. The car is worth 4k at best. Not worth it.

Transmission work is always expensive to have a shop do, but the good news is that once it’s done you basically get a car for another 100k miles
