Here’s what is interesting about these things. The concept was that no one would break the glass spuriously to get to the fire extinguisher unless there was a fire. BUT, anyone who wanted to use the fire extinguisher for some purpose other than an emergency would have no qualms about breaking the glass--it’s just one more social contract to break on the way to breaking a social contract.

Maybe that’s why they aren’t around anymore, they never really worked as intended. It’s just that so few people would find nefarious purpose for a fire extinguisher that it seemed to work, because the glass was rarely broken without need.
