Comment on Pupils to be offered vocational GCSEs in radical shake-up of system in England

Two things:
One. The issue with UK education is that it is overloaded with content. Secondary schools have to race through the content and barely finish teaching it. Too much is dry learning by rote. Slimming down the curriculum and ensuring that all pupils leave school literate and numerate should be the priority. Many - perhaps as many as half - don’t.
Two. Unless Labour MASSIVELY invest in this “shake-up” it will arrive dead-in-the-water. Labour in government has a history of introducing strategies and initiatives that overwhelm schools, have little impact and are quietly dropped later. My suspicion is that little new money will support this “shake-up”.
