rumschlumpel@feddit.org 1 week ago3 feet away is insane, I’d expect at minimum a clearly visible marking on the street. Where I live, the hydrants aren’t even visible, just small iron plates in the ground; never heard about any issues with firetrucks accessing water.

Also, they almost always are, there are a ton of regulations on how visible they must be, and usually include yellow marking on the curb where you must not ever park.
Sounds dangerous, and I’m certain there have been problems you just haven’t heard of them. People don’t pay attention, and something invisible is getting parked on. Car brains and all.
