Comment on When weather hits the North East it's called a North Eastner. How come when weather hits the North West it's not called a North Wester?

Probably the same reason no one refers to an “upright” vacuum cleaner as such anymore.
Wait - what do we call them now? I thought the major categories were “upright” and “canister”?
They are all vacuums or “hoovers” if you live in the UK.
