the energy pellet receiver casting light on walls is something that existed in the original game as well.
the remake itself is great, as there is more to it than meets the eye. especially the Escape sequence.

Damn. I really thought I had found something different there. It does make sense though. I remember when I noticed it I thought to myself “well. Maybe the OG does have it. it seems like an obvious detail to include so people know where to aim”
