Womble@piefed.world 1 week agoThe maximum a magistrate could sentence for a single either-way offense changed from 6 months to 12 months then, someone accused of an either way offense could still elect to have their case in front of a jury at crown court (with the possibility of >12 month sentence). I wouldn’t consider that a particularly significant change, and it didn’t attract a large amount of criticism from the legal profession like the current proposed change has.

Do you struggle with reading? I said that the previous change was not along these lines because you could still opt for a jury trial if you wanted and that the current legislation hasnt been passed and is likely to have huge opposition in the lords.
I know you Americans love shitting all over things you dont understand, and that you dont have any legislative scrutiny of laws, but that isnt the case everywhere.

That is not what I read in the Guardian, the newspaper said anything expected to yield less than a year in prison is now decided, as of 2020, by a magistrate that is chosen by the famously haughty and cuntish legal profession, and they just upped it to 3 years now.
That they underfunded and sabotaged the courts on purpose to use their failure as an excuse to get rid of jury trials, piece by piece. Fuck your lords by the way. Your MP’s, Labour, made this fucking change.
