Comment on Why do women in golf wear those short/skirt things while the men wear pants?
grue@lemmy.world 5 days agoPersonally I actually think class has more to do with it than sexism in general. For example the first professional woman to play golf in slacks was in 1933, while the first black professional golfer was allowed in the PGA in 1967.
It’s weird that you keep saying only “class” when you mean both class and race. Yes, they’re correlated, but they’re not the same and both really are at play here.

Up until very recent history class and race were inseparable constructs. Even now you could legitimately argue that even the wealthiest black members of society are not truly part of the ruling class in western society.
During the time periods and activities we were discussing assuming that race is part of class is perfectly reasonable. Specifically when it comes to dress codes class is going to be more of the focus.
