    I assume they’re setting their own DNS, because they’re stuck with Safari as the engine on iOS

      Safari has uBlock Origin Lite.

      iOS also has Brave, which apparently created the adblock engine Mozilla borrowed (and weakened)

      iOS also has an independently developed browser with true uBlock Origin support. It doesn’t have official App Store support, but Mozilla could lobby for it.

        Afaik that’s a currently non-used library in Firefox desktop. For iOS, The Verge claims it’s just Apple’s WebKit Content Blocker + EasyList.

    nope. The project to port gecko to ios has been ‘in progress’ for years, but AI takes priority.

      Apple TOS is that all webpages must be rendered in WebKit.

        At least in the EU they were forced to allow other browser engines a few years ago, but their “solution” sounds like some malicious compliance (because of course, it is Apple we’re talking about after all): …apple.com/…/alternative-browser-engines/ Apparently you have to request some special entitlement and fulfill a lot of requirements to be allowed to ship an app with anything other than WebKit.

        I’m not sure that’s completely true, but you might prove me wrong; As far as I’m aware, the issue is that a browser must be rendered in WebKit in order to be available in the appstore.

        For lucky users in the EU, that needn’t be such an issue any more.

        In addition, I’d like to see more popular apps offered outside of the appstore to get around apple’s illegal bullshit. With luck, applying more pressure worldwide, as users outside of the EU see how good it could be if you don’t allow the oligarchs to always get their own way.

    I think it’s more in the sense of Firefox on iOS is pretty much the last horse to cross the finish line in terms of ad blocking. These things have been available on iOS for years now, including from gorhill himself.
