SituationCake@aussie.zone â¨2⊠â¨days⊠agoThe current explosion in data centre expansion closely aligns with the explosion in AI services. So yes I agree that there must be a connection. Two years ago 8 billion people we were doing banking, using cloud computing services, streaming movies, storing 10000 work emails each, and all the behind the scenes industry needs, and that did not not need anywhere near the amount of data centres we do today. The AIs are very very hungry.

Wow, thatâs rude. Clearly I didnât say that? Since you know so much, what specifically are the 37 new data centres planned for Vic going to be used for? And why did we need so fewer of them only a year or two ago? Sure there will be varied uses but a huge amount must AI. AI is a tool, itâs not good or evil, and itâs here to stay. Most people understand that too, but at the same time they are observant and right to be asking questions about location, infrastructure, impact to power and water use, and public amenity. Which is why it is a topic of public debate.

Rude? I stated the fact that people are conflating datacentres as a whole with llm dcs.
you decided to construct a shitty, ranty strawman in response. Thatâs on you. I donât care. Itâs nothing to do with what i fucking said.
