I know you didn’t ask, but Punters Politics is great btw… Very level-headed political analysis in the videos I’ve seen from him, and he seems to be getting through positive messaging to a young demographic with his approach. Which is so important with all the mountains of cash being astroturfed into fake groups like ‘Advance Australia’ to push pro-oil&gas and anti-Greens messaging to that non-politically informed demo.

Difficult to take anything seriously that has “influencer” in the title as if that is a good thing.

youtuber Swollen Pickles has also done some good work, informative and entertaining.

Oh yeah I’m a big fan. Only discovered him a few months ago but he does great stuff.
But in this case he’s not the one being referred to as an “influencer”. That was the creator of the video Punter Konrad is commenting on in this video.
Which as it happens, I just discovered was created by an actual legit independent journalist, Jesse Noakes.

It was simply the most accurate term I could think of. They’re not a proper journalist, even if in this context they seem to be doing some pretty damn good (if not especially difficult) journalism.

Maybe ‘podcaster’ or ‘YouTuber’? The Wikipedia page labels ‘Punter’s Politics’ as a podcast: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punter's_Politics
They seem to post a lot on various social media too, though, so I see where you’re coming from.

Punter Konrad isn’t the influencer referenced in the title. Konrad is commenting on a clip made by someone else. And I’m not 100% sure, but I don’t think that person was a YouTuber. Instagram or TikTok is their stomping ground, I think.
I definitely would use YouTuber if it were someone primarily from YouTube.

Uh oh, I’ve made an arse of myself by not watching the video first 😆
To apologise, I’ve taken the time to look into the actual person/account you were talking about 😆 ‘The Last Place On Earth’ have a website (looks to run on Substack) and a podcast.
There’s also a text article about that particular encounter (www.lastplaceonearth.com.au/running-polling) that was co-published with Crikey, at which point I think it’s totally fair to just call them a journalist.

Some of the youtubers are more like what “proper journalists” are meant to be than the vast majority of the people working for mainstream media are.

I would probably go with youtuber as suggested by zero-gravitas
The term influencer is not a positive one, on the internet it means to manipulate.
