Check this video from Gamer's Nexus. They don't even need an ethernet cable, they can just install ads/malware directly through Windows Update.

Windows update can install whatever the fuck it likes for all I care, I’m never using Windows again.

Windows installed that malware. The monitor has no way of installing anything on its own.

To be fair, that really took two parties, didn’t it? LG had to put the software in the update, and Microsoft had to wave it on through.
