Please remember that Star Wars was released in 1977. It absolutely blew people’s minds because they were doing something that had nobody had ever seen before. You can’t nitpick it the same way you can Marvel slop in 2026, there was so many ground breaking things, most of all it was a genuinely alien experience because we hadn’t really seen such a well designed intergalactic society and world building before, that all the minor stuff is genuinely just nitpicks for what the greater story was.
It’s like finding flaws in a renaissance painting, or the Iliad, or classical opera- which is a fitting comparison considering SW is the definition of space opera, down to containing one of the most genuinely masterful, memorable, and well crafted scores of all time.

Mark Hammil does an excellent Harrison Ford impression, so there’s a possibility that the “kid” is part of the impression, rather than a direct quote. Also, I was doing the quote from memory, so it’s also possible that I remembered it wrong.
But I also like the thought that Harrison Ford calls everyone kid.
