Very interesting… in the early- to mid-90s I had some friends who were really into 2nd wave 2-tone (like Madness, Selecter, Specials, English Beat) and what they taught me involved more knee-kicks, like what this influencer’s doing here: https://youtu.be/IWpUHMow5LM?t=2
Personally I liked the first generation of ska the best, when it blended with rocksteady and early reggae, very soulful stuff.

Agreed. I was in a number of ska bands throughout the nineties, but they all wanted to be third wave. I vastly preferred the sound and energy of first wave.
