Admittedly anecdotal I can’t give you proper statistics to back this up but my partners career involves working with people in vulnerable situations like this and this seems to be an unfortunate reality for more people than you might think.

It is common for an abuser to take away a victim’s phone, shoes, car keys, medication, etc in order to control them and make it difficult for them to leave.
