Does there need to be a system? USA is the only rich country that seems to think so… My doctor doesn’t charge me, they charge the government. Hell, even parking is free.

You;re still paying in taxes nothing is free. They’re charging your government and your government is making you pay for it through taxes. It’s just routed differently. In the US it’s more direct to the patient and/or customer. Which is why it would make sense at the very least, to have people with medical knowledge not just insurance knowledge because then the common sense of does this person need to be covered for an inhaler or an epipen wouldn’t even be asked.

I’m still not seeing why the extra step of a for profit insurance company is ever needed? All it does is raise prices and make life harder for the people in need. Get rid of it, and your money is spent much more directly without someone denying you medical care because they see you as an expense.
It’s also important to note that my doctor doesn’t charge my government for anything. They employed directly by the government, which means the government is determining what the cost of a procedure is, instead of the doctor. This lowers the price because you cut out another for profit middleman.
This also means my government has that same person with medical knowledge to determine wether or not a procedure is actually necrssary that you’re requesting. The same doctor you visited.
Medical insurance companies and privately owned medical care is ALL just unecessary middlemen that make your life worse. They’re not needed, and needs to be removed entirely.

Your taxes. In no other country does the procedure actually cost 20k. It’s been inflated to ridiculous amounts by the doctors because the insurance pays it.
