Comment on What is the name for a "mechanical wire" I saw in a video? One end of the wire can be plugged into different gears for different gearing ratios. Like a flexible drill extension. More info below

That is called a flex shaft. You’ll see them commonly on rotary tool like Dremel. That’s an interesting application in the video. Changing the input on the shaft is basically like shifting a transmission.
