I didn’t say always, but there is a long history of it. Iggy Azalea is a somewhat controversial example, Iron Eyes Cody is an uncontroversial one, and Asa Carter is an infuriating one.
The term “blackface” originated from the practice of white people impersonating black people for minstrel shows in the 1860s, for an old example.
