So in fact, the term “dog” meaning “sausage” does likely originate in sausages sometimes containing dog meat in the past.

However, corn dogs are newer than hot dogs themselves, and it’s unlikely many of them ever contained dog meat.

I like the idea that corn dogs came first. Then some picky eater was like “I don’t want the corn, just the dog.” And so some county fair food worker had to peel the hot corn batter off the corn dog.
And there happened to be a pervert watching, who said “Oh, look at that! A corn dog without the corn! Showing it’s skin like it’s naked!!! Oh, that is a hot dog if I’ve ever seen one! Which I haven’t, because this is the first time someone’s ever stripped a corndog…”
And so it was! A naked corn dog was now known as a hot dog.
