Parasite is not a movie that makes sense for a spin-off, remake or sequel. The very idea of a “Parasite” franchise is revolting. And yet, here we are.

There are so many cases I’ve seen of some piece of art getting commodified in ways that just kind of fly in the face of the original work.
The one that always comes to mind is Madoka Magica.

The twist in the show is that the magical girls’ souls have been essentially turned into objects alienated from their bodies. They’re forced to work for someone exploiting their needs and are discarded when they are no longer useful. So it feels super weird and gross to make a bunch of figures and merch of the characters, literally objectifying/commodifying them.
