We don’t use checks except very rarely and we have manufactured houses (called mobile homes here). They just don’t come with the land under them so they constantly lose value and cost rent for the lot, are generally smaller and worse than in situ buildings, and are stigmatized as “for poor people” because of the fact that they’re cheap in the moment and expensive long term, which is the opposite of normal housing.
