The county isn’t really divided by state lines, it’s divided by: urban v rural, college educated v non educated and rich v poor, as well culture, ethnicity and religion.

I would say the “heartland” of America is relatively culturally homogeneous, and many, if not most people from the heartland definitely seem not to like or trust the Pacific Coast states or the Northeast/Atlantic Coast area. If there’s a big political divide in America I’d say it’s more the interior v the coasts and big cities v small towns than red states v blue states.
