Take a look at the exchange rate of the Yen compared to for example Euro over the last 10 years and it should be clear why the Japanese prize is “cheap”. The Yen has lost a lot of its value, while Japanese wages haven’t risen accordingly. So prizing the game at an equivalent prize to EU or US would mean that the game would simply be unaffordable to Japanese people.
