Startpage is owned and operated by Surfboard Holding BV, which is majority owned by System1, an American internet advertising company.
Not sure if this makes it inherently bad because it’s still not in the US, has a decent privacy policy, and the ads are contextual to your search, not targeted at any identity.
Still better than using Google.
