I know technically you’re right. But if you managed to come out the other end, as in, kick the addiction… Mentally the experience would probably toughen you up.

I know one person that managed to kick heroin about 10 years ago now. They are one of the most head strong people I know now, with an enormous amount of drive to continuously improve their own life (they have since started a family, got a career, and just purchased a home recently).
In their case, I would definitely say ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’ holds true
