TrickDacy@lemmy.world 4 days agoThere’s no wanting to do the right thing here. This is one person’s ego driving them to think they knew better than everyone else, and that kind of thinking should not be not be given any grace.
I can’t say I agree. He did think he knew what was good for everyone but I think it truly was “right” in his mind. It’s a bizarre and dishonest thing to do, but I think he thought it was justified. He probably won’t self reflect but leaving here will make it more likely.

You’re both right. He had good intentions, but good intentions implemented in bad ways can be - and often are - just as harmful as bad intentions. If you want to be beneficial for society, you can’t just hope for the best: you need to actively assess whether your actions are helping, and course correct if they aren’t. It’s a tiresome, often thankless job, but it’s required to do actual good.
