Comment on steam machines be like
TowardsTheFuture@lemmy.zip 1 week agoEh, dudes running a business fairly well (as in both making money and customers mostly happy)
30% cut is basically the same as physical and comes with handling downloads and updates and all on their servers. Could be less for sure, but when it started that was mostly reasonable. The fact that large games go down to 20% and smaller games are stuck at 30% sucks.
The gambling I agree, just because it is common across the gaming industry doesn’t make it okay. Even if how they do it is “less bad” it’s still shitty. The milking users idk what you mean outside the gambling bit but sure.
Shitting on game-dev? Him saying they need to learn AI? I agree fuck that.
The steam machine is not horrible value for a prebuilt, it’s just a horrible time for a prebuilt, and its tiny ass form factor makes for weird choices that limit it but like whatever. If you want a tiny thing to put under the TV to play games it ain’t bad, but there are also other options. Selling at a loss is generally an anticompetitive strategy to get market share over those who cannot afford to so I would generally disagree on that.
