MnemonicBump@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 days agoWe have a federal program in the U.S. called Job Corps that does provide free technical training in a WIDE variety of trades, but it’s woefully underfunded these days, and not well known due to having a reputation as the sort of place wayward youth go to instead of juvenile hall, and you have to be between the ages of 16 and 24 at the time you start.
Free education isn’t really a thing here.

i hope the DSA folk get more influence there, they seem like the only force actually capable of doing any real change within a reasonable time period

I mean, yes, but the DSA has had a problematic and interesting history (I say this as a former member/member at large). And it’s important to remember that they’re not a political party and can run no candidates themselves (which would never work if they tried), so their best bet is to try to turn the DEEEPLY entreched liberal Democratic Party, which is like pulling teeth.

Ohh, a few years ago there was a series of (verified) SA and harassment allegations levied at some of the national leadership, around the same time there was a pretty big controversy surrounding the misappropriation of funds donated my members and also membership dues, and for this reason the Libertarian Socialist Caucus largely dissolved and left the organization. It was a whole kerfuffle
