mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 weeks agoI’ve thought about picking up something like this, but e-ink displays tend to be fairly sensitive to pressure. They can get damaged (or even outright punctured) fairly easily. AFAIK it’s an issue with the way the e-ink displays are physically constructed, so it’s not something that can be engineered away with harder glass or a more durable frame. So I tend to be hesitant to attach it to my phone, which tends to get beat up throughout the day.

To be completely honest, the magnets aren’t really strong enough to make me feel safe keeping it on my phone anyway. I just carry it naked with a screen protector, but there is a magnetic folding cover available too. It’s small enough and light enough that it actually probably takes a lot less damage from a fall than a phone that weighs 3x as much.
