Similar but less evil, I have seen a USB A connector with a really slim middle bit that goes either way.

GreenCrunch@piefed.blahaj.zone 16 hours agoA friend and I thought of, but never implemented, a device that replicates this behavior for USB type C (for backwards compatibility). Since the pins on the plug aren’t actually symmetrical (B6 and B7 are blank) a custom socket should be able to detect orientation and require three flips before communicating with the device.

I used one of these, they’re terrible. Middle bit is so flexible it makes poor connection and breaks easily

Usb C already requires two flips, so it’s just a matter of adding one
