I love this game, but I hate that the technical implementation is so bad that you have to factor cpu performance into pretty much every system you design.

Ah. That’s probably where I’m going wrong with my oxygen lmao. I try to over design it with a contraption that takes the CO2 from the coal farm, pumps it into an air tight room, then processes that into oxygen again and pumps that throughout my building. I’ll definitely try your suggestion next time. Maybe I’ll get further

By coal farm, do you mean a hatch ranch?
Yeah, don’t overthink it at the start. A single electrolyser just above your base, with a CO2 skimmer at the deepest part of your mining tunnels and a pump to remove H2 at the highest point, both manually activated, will last you a couple hundred cycles at least. Automate the skimmer, pump, and coal generator once you can to make your life easier. Then you have lots of time to focus on overengineering your life support systems while your dupes did of heatstroke :)
