They want to write a new constitution, the 6th Republic, to address this issue and establish a system with more power separation and balance. And possibly more space for direct democracy?

My question is why must the entire Republic be changed? I am not French or into French politics so I don’t know why the republics change so often?

It’s a long story but basically instead of doing amendments the french like to start with a clean slate every time the current system seems inadequate.
Previous republics ended due to wars, revolutions and political deadlock.
