Go buy Sonic X Shadows Generation, now.
Its an excellent way to enter the franchise gameplay wise. After that, you could either play Sonic Origins if you like Classic gameplay or Frontier for modern gameplay.

Ooh i was on the fence about generations (i know its a remake with additional content) but now im sold.

I played the original Generations. The only downside I could think of back then was that it was too short (I wanted to play more!). Now, with the Shadow campaign, that’s no longer an issue.
