It is absurd to have included that as part of the ruling, and certainly indicates the judge was at least as concerned with her own political views as she was the case before her.

That said, there was a LOT going on in the situation that probably contributed to the offender’s obviously poor mental well-being. The judge likely just needlessly threw in some of her own political baggage in what otherwise seems a fairly reasonable sentence upon reading the full article.
