The refinery fire is unfortunate. I hope we donât have to go to restrictions but Iâm not sure the government can encourage people to voluntarily reduce consumption by 10%. Might affect VIC disproportionately because can petrol be redistributed from the other states quickly anyway. Hopefully free public transport is extended, and increase frequencies would be good too.

I recently had a chance to have my appliances replaced with electrical ones, but was kind of in the thick of things at the time and couldnât handle the disruption of having my house gutted.
Perhaps now my circumstances have changed I should go back cap in handâŚ

No impact to domestic gas. Only liquid fuels come out of the Geelong refinery. Specifically the petrol plant was on fire. They say they can still produce diesel but at reduced capacity. Natural gas for homes comes from different sources and processed at gas plant at Longford, so is unaffected. However the cost of running the electric appliances might be cheaper, so could be worth it from that point of view.
