Just buy a rack mount case
I like the way you think, but then you probably have to deal with $erver components.
They make rackmount cases that can take normal ATX components, but even the cases themselves are weirdly expensive for what you get. (Think $30 tower case quality, with sharp edges etc., for $100.)
