Comment on [Meta] How should we handle dedicated movie discussions?
Blaze@discuss.tchncs.de 11 months agoIt’s more about people being able to find them. If you look at old.reddit.com/r/movies/, they have one pinned thread that links to the current discussion threads.
We cannot do this on Lemmy, as links are instance-dependent.
Creating the threads without pinning them would mean they would get lost quickly. Pinning them all would clutter the community.

Such micromanagement. It’s become, dare I say it, your obsession.

I just want the community to be successful, not sure what you mean by that?
I would definitely like to see someone else starting this kind of discussions, but there doesn’t seem to be anyone yet.

By what metric is the community NOT successful in your opinion? Your enthusiasm is distorting your expectations. If I was so inclined, I could find dozens of your similar “problems” going back months now, even over at lemmy.film (RIP).
Maybe there’s a reason no one else is “starting this kind of discussion”? That is, it’s not as important as you seem to think it is.
Just let it happen. Breathe. This is supposed to be fun, not a chore.

It’s interesting, because back on lemmy.film we had dedicated movie threads, and they initiated interesting discussions. They still exist on !movies@lemmy.world, and have some success, depending on the movie.
As always, it’s a “build it, and they will come”, but in this case, we haven’t built the place to discuss the movies yet.
Thanks
