In the U.S., stand with your back to the hinge side of the door, and swing your arm as if it is a door to determine a “right-hand swing” door from a left-hand swing. This makes sense to me. But, because humans, in Europe, you stand on the latch side. So, U.S. and European designations for door swing are opposite each other.
