Iâll spoiler this because Iâm not sure how long it will take:
Trivia night details
One team ended up using the name Quizlamic Jihad, which is a bit of a spicy name but it had been used in the past at another venue and no one seemed to mind. A woman asked me who that team was at the end of the night because it seemed like she didnât like their choice of name.
That night when I got home I received an email from one of the main people in charge of trivia, and someone else I hadnât heard of was CCâd in. He didnât mention this guy was CCâd in or who he was. I did some linkedIn research and it was the head of events for the parent company.
They said they received some âfeedbackâ on the event and wanted further clarification on some details of the night. There were a couple of things they wanted me to write about like technical details and crowd reaction, which felt like hiding the true thing they wanted to ask about.
So after I responded to that email the reply was saying it was about the team name and whether I thought it was acceptable, quoting back sections of the code of conduct to me, and asking why I went with the name. He could have led with this instead of being broad and vague. I also havenât received the formal training Iâm supposed to yet so depending on what they say I might bring that up. I feel itâs a bit rich to recite the code of conduct back at me when you havenât taken me through it like you promised.
Now Iâm waiting to hear back and I donât know whatâs going on. Who knows? I might not be hosting pub trivia any more. I could have just gotten a more direct, âhey, we got some feedback about this tonight, donât do it again.â
I worked a night with this guy and he was telling me how heâs always direct and blunt with people so I would have expected the same from him over email. Instead it feels like a cop emailing you instead of just saying whatâs up. I misjudged the crowd that night, we could have just talked about it.
I can change a team name if I feel itâs inappropriate, but that name is my type of humour. This person may have had a problem with some of the jokes I made as well, so I just wonder what theyâre doing at trivia.
Weâll see what happens. A complaint was made so something needs to be done, but I feel the company isnât being great in how they handle this with me either

Oh yeah thatâs hinky bullshit.
An mc isnât in charge of team names or dealing with a passive agressive whinger who canât tell the team directly to stfu
(We had our tream name as notre flamme on a very relevant night btwâŚ)

You usually go by the vibe of the place anyway.
