I’ve always had good experiences pirating games, starting with no-cd cracks in the 90s. Showed me games did not have to be in the drive to work, so they lied off the bat. No thanks. I’ve paid for hundreds of games I’ve never played, I will not pay for Nintendo games or other scummy companies.

Game company: “People are pirating our game! We can’t have that!”
Rational Person: “Look, there are a lot of reasons people pirate stuff, and some of it we can address, like pricing and delivery. But some of it is just going to be people who wouldn’t ever pay for it anyway. Just make a good product and let the people who pay for it have a good experience and they’ll tell their friends who might also pay for it.”
Game company: “Screw that. Let’s punish the people who buy our game instead.”

Ugh I was so happy when they first announced “denuvo is being removed from RE4,” because that’s a sane business decision that capcom has made in the past. Studies have shown that drm only makes a meaningful difference within… I’ve forgotten but I want to say it’s like the first year of release, after which time not only has the game probably been cracked anyway, but also the game has already likely seen the bulk of it’s sales. Adding NEW drm doesn’t make any goddamn sense this late into the lifespan for a single player game. It’s extra expense and also providing a second, alternative drm that might be easier to crack if the first wasn’t already
